Dutch Government Expands Caribbean Cooperation on Colonial Archives and Digital Heritage
Abstract
The Dutch government says it will intensify cooperation with Curaçao and the other Caribbean parts of the Kingdom to improve access to colonial archives and strengthen digital heritage infrastructure. The announcement is part of a new Dutch policy response addressing how the Netherlands intends to manage archives and documentary collections connected to the colonial past. According to the document, the Netherlands recognizes that colonial archives are not only Dutch historical records but also part of the shared history of Curaçao, Aruba, Sint Maarten, Suriname, Indonesia, and other formerly colonized regions.
