Abstract
The Permanent Archive Division of the General Archive Department at the Federal University of Santa Maria was one of the first to be hit by the flood. On Tuesday 30 April, 8,000 boxes containing documents dating back to the 1930s were submerged in the muddy water that overflowed from a stream near the DAG-UFSM building. Thousands of documents, including records such as the university's founding minutes and the Gaucho archives were affected.
