This online micro-course explores some of the major histories, migrations, artists and activists that have contributed to the presence and survival of Black people in Canada. The course tracks Canada’s evolving relationship to Blackness and Black people, while inviting learners to reflect upon the ways Canadian views of race and multiculturalism have influenced Black communities throughout the country. Started in 1936 by Harlem postman Victor Green, The Negro Motorist Green Book was a guide published over three decades that helped African Americans travel the country safely, and with dignity, during a time of Jim Crow laws and segregation. Presented until 10 March at the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles; from 30 March to 23 June 2024 at the Jimmy Carter Presidential Library in Atlanta; and from 13 July to 13 October 2024 at the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center in Cincinnati.

Archivists and archival studies scholars and students are invited to register for a 15 week reading group that will study the destruction and theft of Palestinian archives, and the expropriation and erasure of Palestinian history and documentary culture by the genocidal Israeli state and its western collaborators and supporters, including the United States, Canadian, British, French and German states. Held every Tuesday from 13 February to 28 May 2024.
