Title
No hope, no vote … how most of Delhi’s sex workers are being struck off electoral rolls
Abstract
Modi’s bid to ‘purify’ voter lists has affected a third of the city’s residents. In the GB Road red light district, those who lack permanent homes and documents are among the hardest hit.
Under the new rules, voters had to establish eligibility by proving their link to the relevant previous electoral roll or by producing prescribed documents such as a passport, birth or education certificate – a paper trail many struggle to reconstruct.
